2010-08-24 - Great Book in a timely fashion
This book is absolutely phenomenal and well laid out. It's definitely nothing like a dummy book and allows the user/reader to just be able to jump from one thing to another without confusion or complication.

2010-04-18 - Photoshop bible a must reference guide
Adobe Photoshop CS4 bible by Cates,Abrams, and Moughamian is a comprehensive reference guide that any Photoshop CS4 user should have as a reference guide. It is extremely through, and does come with a cd with practice images for your use. It is not perfect, however. It could be improved with more images in color within the chapters, or references to the color pages in the center of the book could be referenced in the contents of the particular chapter processes to which they pertain. All in all, I find the book to be a valuable asset, and worth the price.

2010-03-10 - PhotoshopCS4
I recently upgraded from Photoshop CS to Photoshop CS4. I thought I knew Photoshop well enough but this book, "Photoshop CS4 - Bible" is a 'God-sent'. The various chapters serve as lessons if you so choose. The contents of this book if used progressively will provide a logarithmic learning curve of Photoshop CS4. Borrowing from a phrase, you will find this book to provide 'everything you ever wanted to know about Photoshop but were afraid to ask'. Chapter 14 has wonderful full color examples explaining 'Lightening, Darkening, and Changing Contrast. There is a CD of photos to practice on. Chapter 18 is very comprehensive explaining Retouching and Restoring Digital Images. This is the perfect book to take a person from an amateur Photoshop status to a semi-professional and more. It sure beats buying a monthly Photoshop magazine.

2010-02-25 - A good and necessary resource.
The "Photoshop CS4 Bible" is a good reference book to have on the shelf for anyone who wants to utilize the vast array of tools available in CS4. It's the best one I've found for reference. And a good reference book is really necessary with Photoshop because the Adobe Help is very poor and of little use, in my opinion. I found the Table of Contents and Index to be thorough and well-ordered, a necessity for any reference resource.

2010-02-01 - Buy only at a Garage Sale
I purchased the Photoshop CS4 Bible because it was the only one on the shelf that seemed comprehensive enough (thickest) and I was in a hurry to complete a project that required the new Adobe version of this software. I had used technical manuals labeled "Bible" before and the publisher Wiley had a good reputation with me.
Unfortunately, I found out later that weekend, upon closer read of the text that the book is made up of disjointed submissions by the three authors without regard to each others writing. Throughout the text, there are repeats of basic definitions (like on HTML defined on page 700+) but lacking useful "how it is done" information. And, the authors are either lazy or have no idea what a relatively inexperienced PS user don't understand.
I think writing books that begin with the function of the software rather than what the user is trying to accomplish has its place, but not for the novice.
Look elsewhere.
